·         Our goal is to provide a framework for a systematic and simplified approach to teaching numeracy.

·         The NC ‘Mathematics Proficiency’ strands are addressed: understanding, fluency, problem solving, reasoning.

·         Learning activities are in context to ensure relevant skill consolidation.

Modules

The course comprises 5 modules, each of approximately 1-4 hours:

M1. Understand the components of numeracy teaching: why, what, when, how, with-what, so what, how well.

M2. Prepare Year and term plans for our current year level, based on the key numeracy content strands. NAPLAN Numeracy teaching requirements will be addressed.

M3. Navigate through the wide range of numeracy support materials and make choices on learning activities for your class.

M4. Prepare a series of lessons focussing on chosen numeracy strands.

M5. Connect your numeracy program to appropriate resources: both electronic and book resources.

Assessment:  Submit relevant plans to verify.
