Rationale

·         The curriculum and the learning program has to be converted into ‘schedules’ for a sequential, coherent developmental plan.

·         Teaching is an explicit process. Effective learning depends on the teacher understanding what is learned when.

Course description

·         The goal is to enable you to plan quickly and efficiently – by transforming curriculum into schedules.

·         Answer the key questions addressed are: ‘what to teach when’.

·         Identify and use the tools to schedule learning: scope and  sequence charts, Year – term planning overviews, Week by week schedules, Day planning,  Individual lesson plans, Checklists.

·         Bring all the parts of the jigsaw together into a manageable planning process.

Modules

The course comprises 5 modules, each of approximately 1-4 hours:

M1. Understand the components of the planned learning experience: why, what, when, how, with-what, so what, how well.

M2. Examine the relationship between curriculum / syllabus and ‘Scope and sequence’ charts.

M3. Use sample scope and sequence charts to derive Year overviews, and Term plans.

M4. Use simple E-planning processes to prepare week by week plans. Convert these into day plans.

M5. Examine checklists and create targeted summaries of scope and sequence charts.
