Rationale
ERS recognises that teaching is a growth profession, and student growth is related to teacher professional growth. The teacher is the single most important factor influencing student achievement. Teachers need constant professional learning opportunities to develop the professional knowledge and teaching practices to enable them to educate students in a complex and changing world.
A mission for ERS is to provide stimulating professional learning experiences to enable teachers to remain motivated through opportunities for a deeper understanding of the knowledge, and strategies related to the art of teaching. Professional satisfaction can then be enhanced.
Research Foundation
Education Research Solutions ‘Professional Learning Programs’ are founded on current research on the links between curriculum and pedagogy. Our work over the past 8 years including doctoral research has focussed on how to derive well coordinated learning programs that can be translated into engaging learning experiences in the classroom – to improve student achievement.
Customised programs
ERS also strives for continuous improvement. We therefore constantly seek new challenges as we address the specific needs of individual and schools. Our clients can request customised programs to address issues, problems, and goals that are relevant to the current context.
Practical application
The collaborative nature of the professional learning is designed to be school based and embedded in classroom practice. All the programs are designed to have immediate application in the classroom. The programs are practical and provide ‘classroom-ready’ plans, strategies, resources and learning experiences.
Interactive
The professional learning experiences provided by ERS are based on sound adult learning principles and practices. We respect the current knowledge of the participants and seek to find their ‘cutting edge’ for further development. The courses are negotiated to ensure relevance for the teacher’s current stage of development.
The ERS programs model the active learning processes that are integral to the professional learning programs. While there is a sound theoretical foundation to the programs, the actual workshops are hands-on and interactive.
